Awoke well before sunrise this morning—which was nice, considering the lovely sunrise. Today seemed a little more birdy overall, although the Red-Headed Woodpecker seemed to have split the island. (Someone had done a little road grating right in front of its yard.) Walked through Cathedral Woods to Whitehead today. Saw the mother of all fairy houses. Also saw a seal floating on its back.

Wild goose chase

Red-tailed hawk, Rockport, Maine, 05 February 2013.

Red-tailed hawk.

I got a tip this crisp, sunny day about a Ross’s goose hanging out with the resident Canadas down at the Rockland breakwater, so I headed over at low tide, about midday. No Ross’s goose. No geese of any kind. But I did see plenty of other birds—both there, out back, and up Beech Hill. Among them, notably, both chickadees and titmice singing their sweet spring calls.

So, anyway, here’re a few photos.
