Brown Creeper at Breakfast

Thursday, February 28th, 2019
Brown Creeper, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 28 February 2019.
Brown Creeper.

As soon as I got out of the truck with Jack this morning, I heard the voice of a Brown Creeper in the trees above us. Didn’t take long to spot it, poking about in the trunks and branches. Nice start to a nice hike.

All sun, few clouds. Quite cold, little wind. Half a dozen birds on the hill—and a couple more elsewhere.

Wind-Chill

Tuesday, February 26th, 2019
Crow with snack, Rockport, Maine, 26 February 2019.
Crow with snack.

I knew it would be cold, and it was. Not so literally cold as much as wind-chilly. Fact is, the west-southwest wind helped blow us up the hill. Can’t remember feeling such strong insistent gusts. I’d have to say this morning’s was the coldest hike of the winter so far.

That record could be broken tomorrow, though.
