Fledgling Vireo

Friday, August 31st, 2018
Red-eyed Vireo, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 31 August 2018.

Red-eyed Vireo.

A cool-cool, bright-bright day. Much cooler, much dryer, much brighter than yesterday. Little birds hanging around—also a couple of larger ones. Pair of woodpecker species.

Also came across a fledgling Red-eyed Vireo along the trail, calling for food and/or company.

Rock Pigeons, Rockland, Maine, 30 August 2018.

Rock Pigeons.

A little rain floated by early, a little more at mid-morning. Lovely dark skies, a few birds in the fringes. Came upon a young Woodland Jumping Mouse.

Wednesday, August 29th, 2018

Common Yellowthroat, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 29 August 2018.

Common Yellowthroat.

A warm and hazy morning to what would become a warmer day. An early flyby of assorted species, then mostly quiet—other than pollinators and a nice selection of dragonflies.

Monarch caterpillar, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 29 August 2018.

Monarch caterpillar.

Among the pollinators: monarchs. And in the milkweed garden, at least three monarch caterpillars.
