Another cool morning in the shade of the mountain, well before things warmed up into the 90s (F). Dog and I have a pretty nice hike to look forward to, no matter the season.

Not a whole lot of species on today’s list, but plenty to let me give this new camera a try. Not rated as highly as earlier models, but I’m digging it so far.

Today was yet another count-off between Lazuli Buntings and Spotted Towhees. The buntings kept their streak alive (14–11).

Looking forward to my first July here in the mountain west. Summertime.

Cloudless Streak

Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, East Millcreek, Salt Lake City, Utah, 23 June 2020.
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher.

Second entirely cloudless day in a row. Typical for the beginning of summer in the high desert? Dunno, but it was a lovely hike with Jack my dog.

More bird species than yesterday. (More mammal species, too.) And one in particular—the last on my list—was the highlight: a bright male Wilson’s Warbler poking about in the thick greenery. Only got one clear glimpse, but it was a first for me out here.

Most cooperative photo subject was a gnatcatcher. (Thanks, guy.)

Today was a cloudless day. My morning hike with dog was cool and clean. This afternoon, the sun was bright, bright, and the sky was blue, blue.
