Humid Morning

Saturday, May 26th, 2018
Common Yellowthroat (female), Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 26 May 2018.

Common Yellowthroat (female).

Warm and gray this morning. Temps in the 60s (F) early. A thrushy sort of day—but one with a couple of interesting species (notably Black-billed Cuckoo and Magnolia Warbler). So muggy that the raven in the blueberry barren kept its mouth open to keep cool. And I fell in love with female yellowthroat.

Not bad for a humid morning.

Some Good Ones

Friday, May 25th, 2018
Chestnut-sided Warbler, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 25 May 2018.

Chestnut-sided Warbler.

A warm, windy day—warm even fairly early. And windy enough that even a good long hike didn’t bring the number of species I’ve been used to lately. Still some good ones, though.

Gray Catbird, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 25 May 2018.

Gray Catbird.

Up to about 84 degrees (F) this afternoon. I mowed the lawn.

A lot of other birds

Thursday, May 24th, 2018
Alder Flycatcher, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine 24 May 2018.

Alder Flycatcher.

Alder Flycatchers are back, and that makes me happy. They’re not a striking bird to look at. Not particularly great singers. But by now I know and love them—along with the Great Crested Flycatchers we’ve had these years.

Of course a lot of other birds I love, as well.

Bird Report is a (sometimes intermittent) record of the birds I encounter while hiking, see while driving, or spy outside my window. —Brian Willson
