Swallow Afterglow

Wednesday, May 24th, 2017
Tree Swallow (female), Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 24 May 2017.

Tree Swallow (female).

On the green hill today I watched
Tree Swallows perch on trail-side posts.
A male would rise, approach its mate,

And if she would allow it, he
Would couple with her, and depart.
Then she’d just perch in afterglow.
