Foggy ol’ hike

Black-and-white warbler.

Busy ol’ rainy, drippy, foggy day. Rainiest year I can remember. But I had indoor work to attend to—including clearing out a datacenter cabinet I started using a decade ago. (Both a huge relief and mildly nostalgic.) Finally, Jack and I took a foggy ol’ hike up and down Beech Hill.

Woodland fog.

And by “foggy ol’ hike,” I mean just that. About as foggy as you can get. Occasionally a little breeze would pick up and the trees would begin to drip like rain. Mosquitos buzzin’. Birds flitting about secretively. Saw and/or heard quite a few, in fact—many, of course, concerned about their young ‘uns. At one point, a yellow warbler started yelling at us from a nearby tree, which lured a titmouse over, which lured a redstart over—and three birds were yelling at us. Another time, in the woods, I happened to spot a black-throated green warbler foraging low in the understory. Too dim for a photo, though, alas.

All in all, though, a lovely, foggy, soggy, muddy, damp, momentous day.
