Quick Hike

Tuesday, July 25th, 2023
House Finch, Rockport, Maine, 25 July 2023.
House Finch.

Quick hike with our human and dog friends this warm, bright morning. Pretty quiet still—quieter than yesterday—what with all the young birds about. No great photos today—but it was a fun one.

But, back home, out on the west lawn, I got a photo of a House Finch.

Deepening Summer

Monday, July 17th, 2023
Eastern Towhee, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 17 July 2023.
Eastern Towhee.

Up the trail in the fog again this morning with dog. No rain, though—just dampness all about. Birds don’t seem as active in this summer fogginess we’ve been having, but of course the job of raising youngsters makes them shy. Had more species on my list than yesterday during the rain.

Ironically, today’s hike was in fog preceding a mostly warm and sunny afternoon. Notable was a vulture floating overhead in the fog and a lovely female towhee that posed.

Tomorrow’s might be a brighter morning.

A Foggy World

Wednesday, June 28th, 2023
Hermit Thrush, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 28 June 2023.
Hermit Thrush.

Another foggy morn for dog and me—thick fog, moisture-laden air, a soggy water world. I don’t mind the fog, even have come to take it as a challenge to manage to take a decent photograph.

Today’s was a cooperative Hermit Thrush, whining its alarm call on a branch in the woods just in front of us.

I loved this foggy day.
