 Yellow-rumped Warbler.
A busy day much like the previous one, but without the lawn-mowing. Sunny and calm and cool. As Jack and I ascended the Beech Hill trail, we were surrounded by turning foliage—and yellow-rumps. But they were not the only species. Kinglet, towhee, flicker, and jay. And a raven at the end.
 October leaves.
Chilly night. I’d better let Jack out to pee.

 Turkey Vulture.
Scrambling still—dump run, quick shop, probably the last mow of this lawn—but I swung by Beech Hill, as usual. Harrier, TV, corvids, little birds, ’rumps. Also a lovely patchy sky of blue and cloud. The first flames of fire in the foliage. Crows hollering in the distance.
 October barren.
A warm bright day. And now a cool, dark night.

 Yellow-rumped Warbler.
We must be under a high-pressure system here on the 44th parallel, ’cause I should’ve worn shorts and sandals on my midday hike at Beech Hill with Jack today. Also, butterflies, dragonflies, grasshoppers, and other late-summer insects were flitting and fluttering all over the place. Plus, we came upon a sphinx caterpillar.
 Sphinx caterpillar.
Another kind of pressure is on, meantime: I have to find a place to live in about three weeks. Looked at a couple of promising places today—very different, but both nice. Ch-ch-ch-changes.
We shall see.
