Bird early, bird late

Wednesday, June 5th, 2013
Gray catbird, Camden, Maine, 05 June 2013.

Gray catbird.

Rose early today to help with a residential bird survey in Camden. Friendly neighbors turned out, many birds were seen and/or heard, and a good time was had by all. I liked that we heard a great crested flycatcher (there seem to be many around this year) and grabbed a couple of photos.

Song sparrow, Beech Hill, Rockport, Maine, 05 June 2013.

Song sparrow.

Later, I took some photos for a friend. While doing that, I was happy to hear the loud, distinctive note of a broad-winged hawk and spot the bird flying low over the trees. And still later, I rode my bike around in this windy, sunny, lovely day. The temperature was perfect. The wind formidable—going against it was great exercise.

And still later, I took two dogs up Beech Hill real quick. The time was afternoon, and the trail was the open one, so my count was low. But it was nice to hear a cuckoo again. Still would love to get a picture.
