Called Up a Shrike

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2017
Northern Shrike, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 03 January 2017.

Northern Shrike.

I called it up,
the Northern Shrike.

“Let’s find a shrike,”
and there it sat
atop the scrub,
hints of its last
meal on its face.
