A Flock of Horned Larks

Monday, January 2nd, 2017
Rock Pigeon, Rockland, Maine, 02 January 2017.

Rock Pigeon.

Horned Larks, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 02 January 2017.

Horned Larks.

As flock of Horned Larks
circled Beech Nut,
the hut at the top of Beech Hill,
dog and I stood within the wide stone veranda
peering out in various directions,
watching them,
listening to their twittering.

At last they settled in a lower field,
out of the wind,
farĀ away.
