Silent Migrants

Sunday, September 10th, 2017
Song Sparrow, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 09 September 2017.

Song Sparrow.

On a cool morning in fall,
migratory birds move through the trees
silently for the most part,
with but a few chips and tweets and titters.

It’s odd when one bursts into song.
At this time of year, it seems wrong.
