 Northern Shrike.
 Black-capped Chickadee.
Rained overnight last night. This morning, birds emerged—including a raven patrolling the summit fields, a chickadee cracking bayberries, and a shrike hunting from the tops of trees.

This morning at Beech Hill—the coldest morning of the fall so far, with a remnant skim of overnight snowfall—I watched two Northern Shrikes chatter and chase on those fluttery wings of theirs. I also had seventeen species, including five resident woodpeckers.

 Northern Shrike.
This morning I encountered the first Northern Shrike I’d seen on the hill since 27 March 2014—a young bird, catching dragonflies.
