Thrushy Thrushy Thrushy

Hermit Thrush, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 10 November 2018.

Hermit Thrush.

At the end of my hike with dog this misty, chilly morning, I spotted a Hermit Thrush. A little late to migrate away—or perhaps it was mid-migration—but it happened to be the third thrush of the day. First were small flocks of robins (no doubt migrating), and also a little batch of bluebirds (possibly migrating, possibly sticking around).

I do love thrushes. They might be my favorite kinds of birds. (Maybe.)

A Gladdening Morning

Friday, November 9th, 2018
Eastern Bluebird, Beech Hill preserve, Rockport, Maine, 09 November 2018.

Eastern Bluebird.

A gladdening morning. Barely above freezing, breezy, but sunny as all get-out, and with way more bird species than I expected. Of interest were a vocal flock of Eastern Bluebirds, a Cooper’s Hawk in flight, a Red-breasted Nuthatch chowing down on spruce cones, and a passel of Yellow-rumped Warblers.

Blue, Blue Sky

Thursday, November 8th, 2018
Red-tailed Hawk, Beech Hill preserve, Rockport, Maine, 08 November 2018.

Red-tailed Hawk.

Awoke to a bright, angular sun and a clear blue sky and temperatures in the 30s (F) and a breeze. Not a lot of birds, but a few. ’Rumps, mostly. But one red-tail cruised past in the blue, blue sky.
