American Redstart (first-year male).

Ahhh, what a lovely morning. Bright, warm, slight breeze, birds—also, after a while, some people. In fact, a couple of the people were folks I’d known before moving to Utah, so there was a little catching up. I did have to pick up somebody’s trash and move a bench from the grass back up to the Beech Nut veranda.

But I don’t too much mind cleaning up after my fellow humans.

Birds galore. Got a nice pic of a not-quite-mature redstart. Heard a cuckoo. Also heard a raven. Saw and heard three (three!) Broad-winged Hawks circling above the barrens.

I imagine tomorrow’s will be a similarly fruitful morning.

Chestnut-sided Warbler.

Was supposed to rain today, which might be why I ended up sleeping later than I have in a long time. However, beyond a tiny bit of drizzle early, it didn’t rain at all. So dog and I had our usual hike—if a bit later than usual.

Warmish (60s (F)), a bit breezy, and with a good number of species—including a second-of-year booming partridge (a.k.a., Ruffed Grouse).

Thundershowers were possible, even—but nope. And tomorrow’s supposed to be sunny and mild. Works for me.

Favorite Sparrow

Thursday, May 26th, 2022

A day much like yesterday, but mostly cloudy and maybe a bit breezier. About the same number of bird species, a nice feeling of being out and about on the surface of our planet, and a generally fun time for dog and me.

No outlandish surprises, true—but I liked getting a good look at my favorite sparrow on my favorite coastal hill.
