Towhees and Yellow-rumps

Thursday, May 4th, 2017
Eastern Towhee, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 04 May 2017.

Eastern Towhee.

Eastern Towhees and Yellow-rumped Warblers. I saw, heard the voices of, or detected other evidence of more than thirty bird species today—and those two species stand out.

Yellow-rumped Warbler, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 04 May 2017.

Yellow-rumped Warbler.

Towhees, because they love Beech Hill, nest all over the place, and sing non-stop at this time of year. Plus, their songs have amazing variety. I mean, if you pay attention to such things. (I sure do.)

And yellow-rumps because they’re singing like crazy just now. I see ’rumps all the time and know their chip notes well, but I only hear their voices during the couple weeks each year when they’re migrating northward. None stop at the hill and nest, that I know of. So I’ve been soaking up their voices, too.

Oh, and it was a nice change-of-pace to enjoy a sunny day for a change.
