Early in my hike with dog this morning, I stopped and for a long time watched a Red-eyed Vireo that had flown down to near eye-level. Amazing little birds, they are.
Later in the hike, I spotted an Alder Flycatcher. I hear them a lot, but they’re furtive and good at staying out of sight. Then, still later, I heard—then saw—a Least Flycatcher hunting, well, flies atop a beech tree coming down the back side. And after that, descending through the woods, I heard a first-of-year Eastern Wood-pewee.
A flycatcher sort of day.
