Warm Sunday

Sunday, May 10th, 2015
Savannah Sparrow, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 10 May 2015.

Savannah Sparrow.

The highlight of my early hike this warm, muggy, buggy day: the briefest of glimpses—about two seconds, tops—of an adult male Cooper’s Hawk that zipped in, lit on a branch in front of dog and me, then as I raised my camera took off again, headed in the same direction. A male Cooper’s always looks to me as if he’s dressed in formalwear, a tuxedo or something.

Birch, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 10 May 2015.

Birch.

Otherwise, quite birdy. Saw a pair of Rose-breasted Grosbeaks (first-of-year species) down at the Beech Hill Road parking lot. Also came upon a female Brown-headed Cowbird that seemed frighteningly interested in a singing robin.

Plenty of warblers, but still no redstarts of Yellow Warblers. Still no flycatchers to speak of. A lot yet to look forward to.
