Warmth Returns

Sunday, September 15th, 2019
Lesser Goldfinch, East Millcreek, Salt Lake City, Utah, 15 September 2019.
Lesser Goldfinch.

Upper 60s (F) first thing. Warming into the upper-80s—or more—later. Plenty of birds about, as always. Watched magpies catching grasshoppers. Felt a little sorry for the grasshoppers.

Spied a hummingbird, a kestrel, a starling, and the usual suspects.

Blue

Saturday, September 14th, 2019

Blue was the color of the sky. Blue were the wing-flashing highlights on the magpies flapping overhead. Blue infused the back of the perching scrub-jay. And a wave of blue washed over me when I couldn’t manage a decent photo of my first Utah warbler sighting: a Nashville Warbler flitting through the scrub oak. A fairly uncommon migrant, from what I gather.

But here’s a photo of a scrub jay.

Full Moon Friday

Friday, September 13th, 2019
Doves on a wire.
Doves on a wire.

A busy Friday the 13th—with a new moon, to boot—that included my first night out in Salt Lake City. I can only say that it was a sunny day, and there were birds, including a hummingbird sipping from flowers.

And a lovely night.
