Claimed Thicket

Wednesday, June 6th, 2018
Common Yellowthroat, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 06 June 2018.

Common Yellowthroat.

Forties (F) first thing. A chill in the air—but not much of a breeze. A dark overcast. But still enough light to photograph a male Common Yellowthroat in the little thicket he’s claimed this year.

Drizzly Day

Tuesday, June 5th, 2018
Soggy American Goldfinch (female), Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 05 June 2018.

Soggy American Goldfinch (female).

Chilly, drizzly day today. Jack and I were along on the hill this morning—well, alone among dogs and humans. There were birds aplenty, and even a few crickets and a tiny moth.

The blueberries will appreciate the fresh rainfall. I do love a drizzly day.

Lowery Day

Monday, June 4th, 2018
Eastern Towhee, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 04 June 2018.

Eastern Towhee.

Had a nip in the air this morning. Temps in the 40s (F)—a bit chilly for June—and rain on the way. Jack and I headed for the hill in plenty of time enough to miss getting wet. Got a couple bird photos even.

Tufted Titmouse, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 04 June 2018.

Tufted Titmouse.

Most nesters have settled in by now, and most non-nesters have moved through. But that still leaves ample birds—they’re just quieter than usual, is all.

Later, the rains came, light but steady. The earth appreciates it.

Every now and then, I like a nice, lowery day.
