Eat or be eaten

Cedar Waxwing (juvie), near Clam Cove, Rockport, Maine 04 August 2014.

Cedar Waxwing (juvie)

Still no automotive vehicle, but I rode my bicycle around. Not a whole lot of bird activity, but plenty of people activity—another lovely day. I did notice a young cedar waxwing hollering in the understory out back. Watched it dip down and hover near a spiderweb up there, plucking at the arachnid, I imagine. It’s eat or be eaten out there.

Bee stings

Seaweed, Rockland Breakwater, Rockland, Maine, 02 August 2014.

Seaweed.

Didn’t leave my desk until late afternoon, when I mowed the lawn and hacked down a line of tall weeds along the fringes. Hacking the weeds, I disturbed a ground bee nest and got stung a couple times—once on the first knuckle of my left hand and once up my left sleeve in the vicinity of my armpit. Stung like a motherfucker but was oddly invigorating.

I miss Beech Hill. Maybe tomorrow I’ll find a used vehicle to buy.

No photos today. Here’s one I took yesterday at the Rockland Breakwater.

Beech Hill List

Did not hike the hill today—although hundreds of other folks did (free blueberry pick day!).

No Beech Hill today

American Crow (Seaview Cemetery, Rockport, Maine, 02 August 2014).

American Crow.

For the first day in exactly ten months, I didn’t hike Beech Hill. That’s because I sold my truck yesterday and have no vehicle temporarily and therefore could not go there with Jack. We walked over to the Rockland Breakwater instead.

Double-crested Cormorant (Rockland Breakwater, Rockland Maine, 02 August 2014).

Double-crested Cormorant.

I did ride my bike up to Camden and back. Combine the bike ride with the long breakwater walk, and I got a load of exercise and a fairly respectable bird list.

That’s about it, I guess.
