Temperature Dip

January 13th, 2017
Northern Cardinal, Rockport, Maine, 13 January 2017.

Northern Cardinal (female).

Checked the temperature first thing: low 40s (F). High wind, though. When Jack and I hit Beech Hill in mid-morning, and the wind was whipping, and the temps had dipped well into the 50s. Was glad I thought to bring my winter coat.

It is winter, after all.

Not many birds up there—but a sweet lady cardinal out back about midday.

Tonight, just now, it’s 18 degrees.

Warm, Wet, Nebulous Day

January 12th, 2017
Dream of robin, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 12 January 2017.

Dream of robin.

Another 50° (F) hike. Early-afternoon hike, mud, wind, few birds—the world felt vague, sort of surreal. A fascinating day.

Captain Jack, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 12 January 2017.
