My morning hike in the foothills with dog was pleasant, interesting, and uplifting, despite the general dearth of much bird activity. Afterward, we headed to town to do errands, where I encountered city birds—starlings, pigeons, and and gulls.
The gulls here are different from those I grew accustomed to during my decades in Maine. In fact, I’ve only encountered one species: California Gull. Rather similar to Herring Gulls, I suppose, but likely as different as Mainers and Californians.
Still, I like living in a place that’s got some gulls.
