Dang, what a lovely day. Cloudless again, warm but with a coolish breeze—and not too much of a breeze. Made for a great, long midday bike ride and a good afternoon of Saturday errands.
Also a good hike with Jack in late afternoon. At first I heard few birds—it being a poor time of day, and a sneak-around time of year—and saw even fewer. Saw no bird at all until we’d nearly reached the summit already (flicker). But then they started revealing themselves here and there.
Curious sightings: a wood frog along the trail, blending perfectly in with last year’s fall leaves; a big, loud cowbird fledgling in the trailside birches whining for its adoptive mother; a tiny, loud catbird nestling that I somehow spotted in a tangle of brush down the upper wooded trail. Ate a few blueberries, saw a few people (and two dogs).
Tonight is cool and just about as lovely as it can get.
