Fall Approaches

Wednesday, August 8th, 2018
Pileated Woodpecker, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 08 September 2018.

Pileated Woodpecker.

Quite cool this morning. Fifties (F). Also breezy—which knocked down the number of butterflies and dragonflies and other flies. However, a bunch of birds got the message that fall is approaching, so I got a little taste of early migrants. Including another Philadelphia Vireo (not common, in my experience). But the highlight of the morning was perhaps my happening to hear the rappings of a Pileated Woodpecker, which I then managed to track down.

Fall approaches, for sure.
