Long day, but a fairly successful one. Managed a late, breezy bike ride, then went for a hike with Jack.
Warm day, and windy. Not a lot of birds around—that is, few very vocal birds. Or conspicuous ones. Notably, I heard a raven croaking from down the southeast slope. A summery slope. A summery landscape altogether, with ripening blueberries and ripe grasses swaying in the wind. Down at the edge of the wooded trail, I heard the sibilant calls of fledglings and saw that they were chestnut-sided warblers. Just missed getting a photo of the parent feeding one of the little guys.
Also, on the open trail, I saw more young bluebirds.
Didn’t hear (or see) any yellow warblers today. Haven’t heard (or seen) redstarts in several days. Heard no chippy. No doubt the birds are busy feeding youngsters. I.e., laying low.
