February 14th, 2017
Snow Bunting, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 14 February 2017.

Snow Bunting.

The morning after
the 24-hour blizzard
I snowshoed up
the sunlight trail
with Jack,

American Robin, Rockport, Maine, 14 February 2017.

American Robin.

the perfect dog.
At the summit
on the grassy roof
of Beech Nut,
We encountered

a little band of buntings
that stayed
then took flight
then circled,
twittering.

Sundown.

We sure enough had a blizzard. Started last night, built during the wee hours, and hit us with full force this morning and through midday. Thankful were Jack and I that the snow had diminished by late-afternoon—although the wind blew something fierce.

Astonishingly, I even saw two robins fly by.
