Dark-eyed Junco, East Millcreek, Salt Lake City, Utah, 18 February 2022.
Dark-eyed Junco.

Right about freezing when dog and I hit the trail. But as the sun rose above the ridge, you could see that the landscape had changed: two-three inches of snow from two days ago, gone on the southern exposures. And I hear the weekend days will be warmer still—again springlike.

Not great groups of birds today, but a nice species list. Notable was the solitary Cooper’s Hawk that we spooked from a tree below us. Three finch species.

And robins down by the house—where the snow had melted in the yard.

Bird Report is a (sometimes intermittent) record of the birds I encounter while hiking, see while driving, or spy outside my window. —Brian Willson
