A repeat of yesterday morning, but clearer—and a few bird pics.
Most interesting was probably the neighborhood red-tail that likes to perch on a utility pole that’s visible from my front porch. It’s also visible from the trail, so it’s on my list.
Most photogenic was the flicker that allowed me to approach close enough to snag a decent photo. The red-shafted subspecies is indeed a fancy bird.
Oh, and I found a solitaire. I heard it’s distant fluting call down in the neighborhood, quite a distance away. We made our way down the wooded deer trails toward an overlook, where—somehow—I got a look at the bird perching in a leafless hardwood at least a couple hundred yards away.
The voice of a Townsend’s Solitaire sure does carry.
