Another cloudless morning, and again with fairly clean air. Got up to the trailhead a bit later than usual—i.e., got some extra-good sleep last night—and wondered if there’d be more birds, what with sun (presumably) awakening various bugs and flies and whatnot.
Not as many as yesterday, but some interesting interactions (especially among the abundant little hummingbirds). Plenty of juvies, too, which are fun to see. Plus, a comely female Downy Woodpecker.
They’re not uncommon, downies, but I don’t see them often up in the foothills (at least not since the burnt scrub-oaks lost their appeal late last fall). So, yep—she was my bird of the day.
