Quietest morning up the mountain trails in a good while. Few bird species, and few birds generally. No Downy Woodpecker. Had I not spied some pigeons in the neighborhood, my count would’ve been half yesterday’s.
But the neighborhood was a-hoppin’. Big flock of California Quails converged on the side yard, where old apples have been falling from the big tree. A few fluttered up into the tree, in fact. (As did a finch who was partial to apples.) Collared-doves singing sweetly and calling raucously. Starlings.
The joint was jumpin’ today.
