Drizzly and damp early, but a little rain won’t stop me and Jack. Dim and dark, but plenty of bird activity in the woods of Beech Hill. Mostly voices—songs and notes and little yelps of alarm—but a few goldfinches at the summit stood out against the gray.
Dark clouds approaching from the west chased us back down before taking our usual stroll down the open trail. Plenty of birds in the bottomlands, though: Black-throated Blue Warbler, Scarlet Tanager, White-breasted Nuthatch, Eastern Wood-pewee. All nesting down there again this year. Plus, I heard a drumming grouse.
Cool this evening. Should be good sleeping weather.
