This first full day of winter was not too wintry. Drippy, damp, not very cold. A busy day, though, with a narrow opening for my daily hike with dog.
Saw a couple dooryard birds—cardinal and jay—prowling the tangles near the Beech Hill Road parking lot. Saw a gull fly over. Heard the (near-)daily flicker. Chickadees and nuthatches. And then, returning, I happened to spy another little clutch of waxwings preening on some bare twigs a little ways down the slope.
Any day with Bohemian Waxwings is a good ’un.
