Glued to my downstairs desk for most of this solstitial Sunday. But I did manage a nice hike with Jack.
So many little birds around the Beech Hill Road parking lot—two nuthatch species, two tits, woodpecker, Brown Creeper, goldfinches. Then, up the slope, I managed to spot a pair of Bohemian waxwings perched in the crown of a bare tree. As I began to take distant photos, one of the two took wing, flew across the trail in front of us, and lit in a winterberry bush, where it hovered, grabbed a berry, and returned to the tree it came from.
That pretty much made the hike—not to diminish the run I had watching all the little guys down at the parking lot.
