This morning when I first glance
out the window over the kitchen sink
I see two turkeys pecking and pacing
up the drive,
each with healthy-looking beard tufts,
each puffed up against the chill.
Not long after, on the hill,
few birds can manage to raise their voices
above the insistent rush of the wind,
that blows snow
around our ankles, Jack and I,
as if asking us to dance.
