Birds and a Bat

Tuesday, October 9th, 2018
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 09 October 2018.

Yellow-rumped Warbler.

Took another long hike all over the hill today. Set foot on all trails. Many, many yellow-rumps again—but also less conspicuous birds (e.g., an apparently young Hermit Thrush practicing its spring song in soft tones). Saw a young antlered whitetail, very near, when Jack and I were standing quite still.

But perhaps the most encouraging sighting of the day to me was a solitary bat fluttering around in evening in some friends’ wonderfully warm back yard.
