A balmy morning. Some steamy. Loads of birds with fledgings, in underbrush and canopy. A few firsts, as well.
One first: a little Barn Swallow family at the summit, practicing fly-catching on the wing (as happens every summer). Two others firsts: blooming milkweed, and the first Wood Lily of the year. Finally: I spotted a waxwing in the blueberries actually plucking up a ripe one and gulping it down.
Oh, yeah, and it’s the first of July.
