In Afternoon

Common Yellowthroat, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 06 June 2016.

Common Yellowthroat.

In afternoon I went with dog up a hill
that at first was cool and foggy but soon became
warm and muggy and sweaty and—
after last night’s big rain—
muddy,
and luscious,
and rich,
birdy,
and sweet.
