Horned Grebe, Rockport Harbor, Maine, 06 March 2019.

Nice brisk hill hike this morning. No, seriously, it was really nice, with dramatic cloud-filled skies.

Then we drove by the harbor, dog and I, where I encountered a diving Horned Grebe (in non-breeding plumage). It even posed for me.

Winter Blues

Eastern Bluebird, Rockport, Maine, 05 March 2019.
Eastern Bluebird.

Crow and raven on the hill this cold, near-cloudless morning. Dog and I were the only ones up there for our hike. Lovely, blue, and quiet.

Later, at home, more blue came in the form of backyard bluebirds. Winter blues.

Turkeys in the Snow

Monday, March 4th, 2019
Wild Turkey, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 04 March 2019.
Wild Turkey.

Snowed all night. Shoveled and swept in the snow this morning. Still snowing when dog and I set off up the trail—first ones up, as usual. It’s great exercise cutting the first snowshoe trail in six or eight inches of fresh snow.

Saw a robin, heard crows. Then did some errands but encountered no willing avian photo subjects. Back home, though, I got a portrait of a turkey in the snow.
