Red-eyed Vireo, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 12 September 2014.

Red-eyed Vireo.

Today was cool and cloudless. Tonight was starry, with aurora borealis appearing from time to time. I got a glimpse. A friend got a great photo. I’m happy to have chosen to live on the 44th parallel.

September berries, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 12 September 2014.

September berries.

Beech Hill was quiet this evening. Got a good look at a little family of vireos. Surprised a flicker.

Elsewhere, birds were nervous, active. Geese are still browing in a big green grass field on Meadow Street. Saw a Great Blue Heron winging slowly over Chickawaukie Lake—very near where I ended up about 9 p.m., in search of the aurora.

Got a glimpse, as I say.
