To the hill early. Few birds but for yellow-rumps and crows. I did, however, encounter a solitary White-throated Sparrow near the summit. Jack and I were standing still, taking in the windy, sunlit landscape, when I saw it flying up the slope. A minute later, it hopped out onto the trail ahead of us and posed.
