Towhees

Monday, February 14th, 2022
Spotted Towhee, East Millcreek, Salt Lake City, Utah, 14 February 2022.
Spotted Towhee.

Another warm one—warmer still—but with a hazy overcast. Temps got up into the 60s (F) this afternoon, in fact, although my morning hike with dog was still chilly enough for icy patches on the shady switchback.

Singing birds included finches, chickadees, and (briefly) towhees. Still deer about. Fewer numbers, though. Likely, I’m guessing, because of the continued dryness of things. In fact, I learned today that the current mega-drought here in the Western is the worst in 1,200 years.

Supposed to have a little rain tomorrow, and possibly snow the next day. It won’t be enough to fill the lakes, alas.

Bird Report is a (sometimes intermittent) record of the birds I encounter while hiking, see while driving, or spy outside my window. —Brian Willson
