Birds abound at Beech Hill these days—the majority of them (seemingly, at least) youngsters. Like the juvie phoebe I watched begin to scratch its head with its feet, then fall fluttering from its perch. Or the young chasing robins. Or the pair of teenage towhees, or the one lone young grosbeak.
Ah, that awkward age.
