Creepers

Tuesday, April 12th, 2016
Brown Creeper, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 12 April 2016.

Brown Creeper.

Rained some early on this warmish morning (40s (F)), but then let up a while. Checked the radar at that point and saw a big swath of green approaching—figured dog and I should hike right away. Which we did.

Dark-eyed Junco, near Mount Battie, Camden, Maine, 12 April 2016.

Dark-eyed Junco.

Nobody else up there (until we’d nearly finished the round trip), but lots of birds. As soon as we exited the truck, in fact, I heard the song of a Brown Creeper. So I tracked it down and followed it around in the hardwoods for about five minutes or so. Saw a couple more of the little guys, too. That was fun.

Then it was up the slope in a hurry, as slight rain began to fall. Spring migration is about to bust out, I can feel it. (Yesterday’s Osprey was a clue.)

The rain began in earnest after our return. And I finished up my taxes. (Ugh.)

Bird Report is a (sometimes intermittent) record of the birds I encounter while hiking, see while driving, or spy outside my window. —Brian Willson
