Thrushy day

Thursday, October 24th, 2013
Hermit thrush, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 24 October 2013.

Hermit thrush.

Right nippy out. Hooded sweatshirt weather. Sun, some clouds. Some sun. More clouds. Spent some time indoors, did some errands outdoors, finally took a hike with Jack at Beech Hill.

Main trail, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 24 October 2013.

Main trail.

The first bird I heard there was a robin. Then several robins. They’re flitting about, squealing at each other, moving through. The second bird I heard was a hermit thrush. First I heard its wingbeats as we encroached on its feeding ground (that first S-curve through the young trees) and thought it was probably a thrush; then I heard it’s chip; then I saw the bird.

Later, I heard bluebirds. Several bluebirds—calling from the branches of trees, calling while in flight.

It was a thrushy sort of day.
