 Savannah Sparrow.
An exciting morning. You can almost feel the energy of all the combined migrating birds—or birds about to migrate. Heard the voice of a sapsucker. Watched little families of hummingbirds chase each other around the spruce grove. Spotted only my second Cape May warbler up there, too—along with a singing wood-pewee.
 Eastern Towhee.
Nature, please grant me more days like this one.

 Red-breasted Nuthatch.
Cool day, quiet day. Birds are hunkered down (most of them), gearing up for the long trip ahead. Today a few Red-breasted Nuthatches moved through, singly and in pairs. Watched one pair chase each other, seemingly vying over the slim supply of caterpillars in particular a birch tree.
White-breasted Nuthatches are commonest in spring and winter, but the red-breasteds took this day.
