Little More Snow

Wednesday, March 9th, 2022
Dark-eyed Junco, East Millcreek, Salt Lake City, Utah, 09 March 2022.
Dark-eyed Junco.

About four or five inches of new snow overnight, so I left dog at home for a change. Figured he could use a break to rest up his gimpy back legs from navigating all the recent deep, slippery snow/ice. Felt weird. Always feels weird. Lopsided. Something missing when he’s not with me.

Many siskins this morning, and quite a few juncos. Mostly down by the neighborhood, considering fresh snow covering other edible buds, etc. The usual suspects otherwise.

Also deer—sixteen of ’em. Nine browsing in the scrub far above me, and seven watching me stroll by from a distance no more than thirty feet. They know me at this point, I feel sure. I think of them as my friends, kinda.

(They know Jack, too, the deer.)
