“Caw, caw, caw,” the crow says,
then, “Caw, caw.”
Sometimes the caws are five—
almost as often as three—
but many times they four times,
except in the sequence of five,
but missing the middle caw.
Sometimes crows band together
and holler all at once at a hawk or owl
or raven, or fox.
Sometimes they caw seven times.
I wish I could speak crow.
