Two hikes, two hawks

Cooper’s Hawk (imm.).

Two hikes today, about eight hours apart. One in the morning sun, one in the evening sun—well, late-afternoon. A nippy day, a breezy day. No hard frost yet, but this was a chilly morning.

Yellow-rumped Warbler, Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport, Maine, 10 October 2015.

Yellow-rumped Warbler.

Had a nice chat with a couple visitors on the early hike, while Yellow-rumped Warblers flitted around the Beech Hill summit. Saw a harrier on the way up. Blue Jays, White-throated Sparrows. A little pack of robins flew over. And this afternoon, I saw an immature Cooper’s hawk fly by low, getting zoomed at from below by a little bird or two.

In other news, the Longhorns beat the Sooners today, 24–17.
